Oh Canada!

Can’t believe its eight years ago since I last went to Canada! My school friend Lou is lucky enough to live out there in the beautiful town of Fernie, British Columbia with its gorgeous Rocky Mountains backdrop. In the Autumn ( Fall) of 2006 we flew over to Calgary with our friend Anne who I was also at school with. We hired a car and drove to Fernie to stay with Lou and then we all did a little road trip up to Vancouver Island. It was amazing, the scenery was gorgeous and we had so much fun. It was an experience I will never forget. As my blog’s tag line is ‘These Are a few of my favourite things’, I thought I would share a few pictures. Canada is a love of mine. Hopefully one day I will get to visit Lou again and record a little more up to date post. 🙂

Once on Vancouver Island we traveled over to Crystal Cove Tofino Resort near Tofino where Lou had got us a great deal on a tree house cabin with a hot tub. The views over Mackenzie beach were stunning.

We decided to make the most of our time on the island and take a boat trip to some hot springs which incorporated the possibility of seeing some whales in the Pacific Ocean. The wildlife there is fantastic.

On the way back to Fernie we stopped over in Osoyoos and saw a spotted lake and then headed back to Fernie, passing mountain goats grazing in an unusual place. 🙂

Chick Flick Classics ~~ High Society ( 1956)

The film starts with Louis Armstrong and his band on their way to stay with successful jazz musician Dexter Haven ( Bing Crosby) so they can practice for their appearance at a jazz festival. This proves quite satisfying as they are therefore always on hand to burst into musical accompaniment! Over the road from Dexter, socialite Tracy Samantha Lord ( Grace Kelly) is preparing for her upcoming nuptials to rich but boring businessman George Kitteredge.

Tracy has actually done it all before…….with Dexter Haven, but their marriage was short lived. Hoping to win her back Dexter finds he has even more competition when ‘Spy Magazine’ sends a photographer Liz Imbrie ( Celeste Holme) and reporter Mike Connor ( Frank Sinatra) to cover the wedding. Mike finds himself falling for Tracy too.

I loved the super witty dialogue in High Society and I enjoyed the songs….even though I am not a huge fan of musicals. And Grace Kelly of course is iridescently beautiful. This was the last film she made before marrying into Monaco royalty.

Caravan Love.

For some inexplicable reason I have suddenly become just a little bit obsessed with caravans! It may be because we were watching repeats of One Man and his Camper Van recently…and I do love campers too. 🙂 We have been lusting over camper vans for ages but they are a bit more money than we can afford to spend. So maybe the next best thing is a little old caravan. Maybe we can upgrade our tent to a treasured tin box on wheels. I don’t know why I never thought of it before! Can we? Can We? Can we?………????

My Family holidays in the 70’s and 80’s were spent touring Scotland for one week every year ( always in the May half term) with Dad,Mum and my younger siblings in a caravan. I have fond memories of eating out of tins, smash potato,Mr kipling cakes, Seaside, the sound of rain beating down on the roof and playing card games on the pop up table and falling out of bunk beds. 🙂

Of course the caravans we spent our holidays in were nowhere near as gorgeous as the pictures featured here.Orange and brown patterned curtains anyone?
Maybe I just want to relive old holiday jaunts gone by and this is all a pipe dream , I’m not sure, but the other half says he will look into getting a tow bar! I think I had better start saving the pennies for rainy days…….in a caravan. 🙂

Happy New Year Folks !
