A rare treat on Saturday ! I got to spend the whole day with two of my besties. 🙂 Have known Fi and Jo for nearly 15 years now, since we all lived on the same street in our twenties. These two lovely ladies are busy mums so escaping from the kids for a whole ten hours is quite a fete. A little planning and we managed it , dashing for the 9-40 train to Manchester. 🙂
I had done a little research ( only a bit 😉 ) into a tea room that opened just before Christmas. Tucked away in the grounds of Manchester Cathedral and only a stones throw from Victoria station, Propertea is a relaxing and contemporary haven for a ‘proper cuppa and slice of cake’. It is part owned by celebrity ghost hunter/former Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding. We saw no spooks at our table. 🙂
So before we hit the shops ( and strawberry woo woos 😉 ) we went for a brew and yes, we had to indulge in a sweet treat too. How could we resist!
Propertea has an impressive leaf tea selection and I loved how the tea is served out of glass teapots. You also get a cute tea timer so you know how long to stew your brew. 🙂 The waiting on staff were very informative and friendly with their recommendations.
And the cakes not only look good , they are pretty yummy too. We opted for lemon cake, raspberry and orange cake and the rainbow battenberg.
If tea is not your forte there is also a good selection of coffees and soft drinks and the menu includes sandwiches, soups and stews. On the website it says that herbs from the cathedral gardens are used in the cooking.
Popping in for a brew at Propertea was the perfect start to our day out in Manchester. After that there was lots of retail therapy, ciders at the oyster bar, lunch at the Molly house and cocktails on Canal street. 🙂 Here are a few pics taken in the cathedral grounds before we headed into the city.
