An amble around Ambleside. :)

Sunday, we visited the quaint little town of Ambleside in the Lake District. We were on our way to see family in the North Lakes , so stopped off here for lunch. Luckily the promised showers did not materialize so we bought  ourselves a little picnic  from the ApplePie Bakery and ‘ambled’ our way down to the lakeside. The lake is of course ‘Lake Windermere’ which is the largest of Cumbrias many expanses of water. The area by the lake is known as ‘Waterhead’ and it was fun to watch the world go by from here. We also treated ourselves to some chocolate dipped Icecreams ! After that we strolled back and looked round the town which is full of pretty gift shops, cafes , pubs and outdoorsy shops , all set against a gorgeous mountain backdrop.

  1. The first time I went to Ambleside was in the ‘Second Year Expeditions’ of high school. Around ’85. We stayed at the Youth Hostel-I got pushed into Lake Windermere from that jetty! It was freeeeezing!
We’ve been back a few times-staying in Windermere itself. My wife loves Grasmere-she hopes to stay one Christmas time. Kids not withstanding.
