August Adventures.

Books ~ Its 125 years since the birth of English crime writer Agatha Christie and this year the BBC are adapting one of her most iconic novels And then there were none for the small screen. Hurrah for us that Poldark heart throb Aiden Turner is one of its cast.:) But back to the book! This is a creepy and compelling who done it….Ten strangers are invited to the rocky and remote ‘Soldier island’ off the Devon coast.Once there they find their mysterious host strangely absent and stormy weather prevents them leaving.Over dinner it is revealed that each of the guests have been responsible for various deaths over the years. And one by one they too seem to be dropping like flies. Who is doing them in and is the murderer one of them? Suspicion and paranoia heighten the tension in this gripping yarn.

So on to something a little more lighthearted? I’m afraid not! I also read the frighteningly futuristic tale Only ever Yours set in a world where women ( known as Eves) are created to be men’s companions or concubines and even have use by dates. The Eves spend their young lives in preparation for ‘the Ceremony’ and are constantly judged and graded on their appearance. We follow their troubling journey to this life changing point. Its the ‘Stepford Wives’ for the reality tv generation.

Lunch and Afternoon Tea Treats :). I was one lucky lady in August as my work paid for not one but two lovely meals out with friends ( I reached a long service milestone at the end of July) at Hotel Gotham  in Manchester and The Glass House  in Ribchester.Click on the links for my posts.:) I also realised I have indulged in Afternoon tea 8 times already this year…….including this lovely one  in Leeds. What can i say! There have been a lot of celebrations. 😉

  1. I’ve never read any Christie, but Ten Little Indians is on my Goodreads to-read list. We named our Golden Retriever ( still miss him greatly) Rydal after Rydal Water. It was there, when we was considering getting a dog, that we encountered a lady walking two Retrievers, an old, blind one, and a younger one that acted as its guide, and we decided to go for that breed.

    1. Yes I remember your story about Rydal. He looked so gorgeous and happy in your pictures. I hope youre all coping without him. Rydal water is indeed a beautiful place. Ten little Indians is the same book but it was renamed ‘And then they were None’. Probably more politically correct! Its the only Christie I have read. But it has given me a taste for more.

  2. Agatha Christie has been my fav since childhood, having said that beautiful pictures 💖 & your dog 💝 Loved this post! Happy to connect ❤ Do check out my writings too, will appreciate your reviews 🙂

  3. Love the beach huts. I didn’t know you could hire them – am going to check it out! Only Ever Yours is a brilliant book. I had the pleasure of meeting the author in June and she’s the most lovely Irish young woman and incredibly talented. x

    1. The beach huts are fab.It was £65 i think for the day ( 10am -midnight) and they have electric and everything you might need.
I enjoyed reading the book. But i did wish it had a little more of a hopeful ending.x
