Sunday Sevens 22nd July.

Having had a whole week off ( oh yes! ) , I thought I would share some of what I have been up to, in the form of a Sunday Sevens. Sunday Sevens is 7 ( or more) pictures from your week and was originally devised by Natalie at Threads & Bobbins

Fun With Family. Last Sunday my brother stopped over, so we headed to our sisters and had an afternoon out at Beacon Fell Country Park, looking for all the sculptures on the trail. Woodpeckers, Owls, Hare and Dragonflies…to name but a few. You can read about a previous visit to the park here.

Before losing my sandals!

Sinking Sandals. Also this week my lovely friend Lou visited us on route to her graduation in Liverpool. Before dropping her off at Crosby Station ,we paid a visit to the Art installation Another Place at Crosby Beach. 100 Iron Men stand looking out to sea, over 3 miles of coastline.

Lou squelching her way over to one of the 100 Iron Men.

We were very stupid and decided to head out over the wet sand to examine one barnacled specimen. Don’t try this at home folks! Lou was fine, but I ended up losing my sandals to the squelchy Mersey mud. 😦 I know it could have been a lot worse. :/ After that we stayed close to the promenade!

Big Butterfly Count. Heres something I was excited to join in with! Every Summer the Big Butterfly Count asks that you take 15 minutes of your time to sit and watch butterflies. 🦋 I decided to count the butterflies we saw whilst relaxing by the dunes at Crosby Beach. It was a great location as I spotted Peacocks, Tortoishells, Whites, Six-spotted Burnets, a Painted Lady and a Common Blue. Why not give the count a go and submit your results here.

#walk1000miles.  A riverside walk to a nearby village yesterday, brought my miles walked total for this year so far to 909 miles!  Think my swan friend here was impressed!  Hopefully I should hit 1000 miles in August and then my aim is to walk 1500 miles by the end of the year. That would be pretty awesome!

How are you? Any good plans for today ( Sunday) ?  Hoping to head to the coast again. Will try not to lose my sandals this time……

  1. wonderful impressions! You all look so well and happy it puts a big smile on my face. No great plans for this Sunday. We spent the last two days organising and selling books at the annual summer fair in Cley and there’s still some tidying up to do.
Sending you warm greetings from North Norfolk,
    The Fab Four of Cley

    1. I can imagine a book fair in Cley being a lovely event. I remember my holiday in Norfolk last year being excellent for butterfly spotting. I can imagine your fairies would love The Big Butterfly Count. Xx

  2. I love the swan photo, it’s very pretty 🙂

I was planning a long walk with the dogs today but it’s very dull at the moment so I might paint the fence instead 🙂 🙂

  3. A super week. Have you noticed how many white butterflies there are about at the moment. I hesitate to call them cabbage whites but I think thats what they are.

  4. Obsessed with counting butterflies – only 5 large whites yesterday, and 3 small whites and 3 large whites today. Where are the colourful ones?! Love the Iron Men – one to add to the list of places to visit.

    1. There are definitely alot of whites fluttering around at the moment. I do see other colours too though. You should definitely head to Crosby Beach to check out the 100 Anthony Gormley statues. Not far from Southport so quite local!

  5. Wow you’re doing so well clocking up those miles, I can’t believe you’re almost at 1000 already! I’m still under 20 miles I reckon this year (of actual, heading out for a walk miles that is) as we’ve been so busy and when we’ve had time, it’s just too hot for me to go outdoors! I’ve given up trying until autumn now due to the heat and having lots on over the summer hols.

What a lovely week you’ve had with family and friends 🙂

  6. Now that sounds like my kind of day & I need to see those gentlemen looking out to sea next year when we visit UK. I’ve read about them often. You certainly see some pretty butterflies, unlike here in Oz, where I only see 2 or 3 varieties. Sunday has been & gone, but we also walked along a beach & I have a “great” photo for my own choice for the Scavenger Hunt. Have a good week Shazza, stay cool while we try & stay warm(giggle). Take care.

  7. You must have such alot on your list to see. It grows ever longer everytime you read a blog post. 😉 I have not thought about the Scavenger Hunt yet. Oooops I had better get snapping! X

  8. Well done with the 1000 miles! You’ve sharp got through those (almost 🙂 ) And had a good time doing it. I seem to’ve seen heaps of butterflies this year but I forgot to sit down and count 😦
