30 Before 50 Bucket List.

I’ve wrote my new Bucket List, though I can’t say I’m loving the title! But yes I am now 45 years old and having written a 25 Before 45 Bucket List when I was a mere age 42, I thought I would continue with the bucket listing lark, through the rest of my forties. 🙂

There were a few items on my previous list that I never got round to ticking off, so I have included some of them on here. I would still like to swim in a lido, see the Northern Lights and try a Dutch pancake in Amsterdam. And there are plenty of new ideas too, such as watching a starling murmuration, collecting sea glass from the beach at Seaham in County Durham and eating ice cream in a vintage ice cream parlour. I’m excited to get cracking!

And I’ve already crossed two things off my new Bucket List. I managed to take a photo of a Barn Owl that was hunting in the field next to my sisters house ( wow, they are such beautiful birds) , plus I went to watch a movie in an old vintage cinema , which has definitely made me want to do more of the same in the future. 🙂

As you can see, I have left a few gaps in my list, in case I think of a few more things I would like to do.

Do you have your own list?

Have you seen or done anything that I have mentioned here? x

  1. Good luck, Sharon. I am confident you can achieve all of those. Some would be easy to achieve but I guess it’s the issue of finding the time. I look forward to your posts. I have achieved three of those, though all a long time ago. I swam in the lido at Grange-over-Sands as a child. I stayed for a few days in the Peak District a couple of times in the late 1990s – ‘working’ holidays supervising groups of kids from the school where I worked at the time, so not including itineraries I would have chosen for myself, but mostly enjoyable nonetheless. I was also nine stone at one time – I think I was about 15. 😁

    1. Thanks Amanda! I think I remember you saying that you had swam in the lido at Grange. It’s such a shame that it isn’t one of the few lido’s that have been restored. Maybe oneday. I can’t believe I haven’t stayed in the Peaks before now. Especially as probably the same distance from mine as the Lakes, which I visit often. I really should be able to get down to nine stone. It’s definitely been a while though! X

  2. I don’t have a bucket list as many things I would like to do would be completely unachievable for many reasons, but I do have a few things in mind – going to the cat cafe in Manchester is one of them.

Incidentally, I went through Ramsbottom yesterday and coming back went on a recce to see where to park for Holcombe Tower. I drove up a really really steep narrow lane and came out near the Shoulder of Mutton – thank goodness I didn’t meet anything coming the other way! Maybe you went up that way last week?

    1. Hi yes we walked up there from the station. It’s quite steep, and I was glad that Hugo who is a puller on the lead, dragged me up! If you can park at The Shoulder of Mutton or nearby, you will definitely save your legs.

The cat cafe was fun. I hope you get to go this year. X

  3. Nice list. I don’t have a bucket-list. Though I to would like to see the Northern Lights and go wild camping but David isn’t too enamoured with the latter. I’d like to give blood and also meet Max, Paddy and Harry in Keswick. x

  4. I did half of Wainwright’s to coast to coast (from Richmond to St Bees) and climbed Helvellyn and Great Gable in 1984. Will be visiting Amsterdam for the first time in March. I’ll look out for the pancakes. Collected sea glass at Seaham when I was on my first teaching practice at Easington.

    1. Wow, that’s wonderful Heather. I’m looking forward to doing some Wainwrights, though I’m usually hyperventilating whilst walking up mountains. 😉 I would love to visit Seaham. A friend collected some glass and had a pendent made from one of her treasures. X

  5. What a great list, I tried a bucket list once, but it was way to ambitious. My big goal for this year is to go on a whale watch boat from Whitby. I also fancy glamping. I have seen a starling murmuration and it is everything you hope for. I would also like to see the Northern Lights but I don’t think that will be this year. Good luck

    1. I’ve tried to put some achievable things on my list again, things that most people can have done at some point. You should definitely book that whale watching trip. That would be awesome! And there are so many wonderful glamping options in this country now. Visiting a donkey sanctuary sounds lovely too. Are there any near you? X

  6. What a great list Sharon, if you achieve half of them you will have done well. I think I am too old to start making wish lists, instead I want to make sure I do not have any “if only” left to do, Being in the travel industry in the past I am fortunate to have been able to do and visit all the places I wanted to . Now I am retired I aim to continue to do what I want to whenever I can find the time and the energy !!!

  7. Love the owl. They just look so intelligent. What is a wainwright? We get northern lights here quite frequently—mostly greens but sometimes reds. An honesty box meal? A meal you make from items purchased from a farmers stand? Vancouver island has honesty boxes. Here, someone would first steal the money, then whatever was being sold, then they’d run over the stand just for spite. Not very nice!! A tea at the Yorkshire shepherdess?? Tell me more?

    1. I’m very jealous that you see the Northern Lights all the time. A beautiful phenomenon. Barn owls are quite common but this is the first time I managed to capture one on camera. They are truly stunning. Yes an Honesty Box Meal sounds the same as items purchased from a farmer’s stand. The Yorkshire Shepherdess is just as her name suggests. She lives with her hubby and large brood on a remote farm in the Yorkshire Dales called Ravenseat and makes cream teas for passing walkers. I’ve read her books and would love to meet her. X

    2. Oh and Wainwright is the name of a man called Alfred Wainwright who walked up and wrote books about all the peeks in the Lake District. Those fells and hills and mountains are all now known as Wainwrights and there are 214 of them. X

  8. This is a great post and very inspiring. I think I need to make myself one for this year, and continue to add to it. I have ice skated outdoors, but I like your idea of wild camping, mainly because it terrifies me! Good luck with these!

    1. Yes why not! You can put some achievable things on it I’m sure. The wild camping kind of terrifies me too. I’m terrible at skating, but it always looks like a fun wintery thing to try. 🙂

  9. That is quite an amazing list & very much up my street if I lived in UK. I’ve had a kind of bucket list in my head for some time now & have ticked off a few, 2, being (a) published in a quilt magazine before I turn 70 & (b) holding a bird of prey. The last I did in 2014 at The White Rose shopping centre in Leeds of all places. I’ll pop you an email, as there is one I’d “love” to do with you (maybe). I’m not giving anything away on here (giggle). Good luck with your challenge & look forward to reading all about them. Take care & huggles.

    1. Barn owls are gorgeous birds. 🙂
Honesty boxes are roadside stands ( usually near farms) that sell eggs, fruit, veg, jams etc and you leave your payment in a tin provided.

  10. What an inspirational list! I will admit, I had to Google both lido and honest box, but your whole list is wonderful! It reminds me that I need to create a bucket list of my own. I already know a few things on my life-long bucket list, but I don’t have many smaller items for a shorter term list.

    1. I just think if you write things down there is more chance of you doing them. I may not do everything on the list but I will definitely try my best. X 🙂

  11. This is a great list. I’m sure you’ll be able to tick lots of these off, if not all! Perhaps your ticking off the Witchery as I type?! I saw you’re in Edinburgh from your instagram pic!

  12. Love your bucket list. I’ve missed doing them before I’m 50, but there’s a lot on there that I would love to do too! Only ever got as far as drooling at the Witchery menu. I have been to Cumbrae in my student days – not sure we managed to cycle anywhere, but the pub was good! x

    1. We did the Witchery and it was very nice. Expensive but gorgeous food and attentive service. Cumbrae is an island I cycled round with family when I was a kid. Happy memories, so I’d love to do it again and take in all the stunning views. X

  13. This is a great list, best of luck with ticking off every single thing on it, can’t believe you had a chance to see a Barn Owl, aren’t they amazing looking birds? 😀
