The Old Vicarage Tearooms.

If your ever in the Forest of Bowland you may stumble on the tiny dwelling of Tosside. This pretty community is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with the east side of the village standing in Yorkshire and the west in Lancashire. The name Tosside actually derides from the old english word Tod meaning fox.

And you cannot miss this rather handsome Fox weathervain in the centre of Tosside.Head West to the pub and East to The Old Vicarage tearooms. 🙂

The Tearooms are owned by my friend Emmy.I might be a wee bit biased but she is a terrific cook specialising in home cooked meals using locally sorced ingredients.
Today we dropped by for a brew and cake.Yummy!

Wil had Emmys delicous coffee and walnut cake and I had a  scrumptious scone warm from the oven with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

The decor in the Old Vicarage is very homely.Emmy is kind enough to sell some of my teacup candles for me as well as other homemade goodies and freshly laid farm eggs.

And kids and even big kids can get busy colouring in these Foxy masks.Cool hey 🙂

So if you do ever find yourself in Tosside ( it is one of those places you kind of stumble accross on your travels!) be sure to bob in for a hearty meal or even for some of Emmy’s famous sticky toffee pudding. And watch out for those Foxes. They are everywhere 😉

A little piece of Russia………..in the Yorkshire Dales.

image

You wouldn’t expect to discover a little piece of Russia in the Yorkshire Dales.Thats what we found in the pretty town of Skipton yesterday. The lovely Russian Tearooms are situated on the High street near the historic castle. Being that the October Yorkshire weather was sunny but chilly( not exactly baltic but close!) we decided to drop by for some hearty russian grub 🙂

Inside you wander into a wonderland of russian dolls, pretty porcelein, furry russian hats and bottles and bottles of vodka! The tearooms part are upstairs.

The staff are so friendly and they are all dressed in authentic russian costume 🙂

There is an extensive tea menu for all you tea lovers out there. But we decided on a black coffee and a Siberian Winter Hot Chocolate.I had the chocolate of course…

image

The bf decided to try this winter warming beef and potato stew called    Zarkoye         served with bread. He said it was yum.

image

And I went for a bowl of Borsch which is a beetroot and beef soup  which came with soured cream and pampushki( garlic dough balls).Heavenly!

image

We never tried the cakes but there were plenty on the menu to tempt all sweet tooths.

Then after we paid we went back downstairs to browse round the treasure trove of a shop.

Afternoon Tea : )

One of my friends decided she would like to go out for afternoon tea when it was her 40th birthday a couple of weeks ago. It was quite a shock ! Are our clubbing days long gone?? Still it was also a fab idea of hers as going out for tea and cake is one of my favourite things ever!

One of the ‘Alice In Wonderland’ quotes that are dotted round the tearooms.

We decided to go to our local tearoom , the quirky Alice in Wonderland inspired ‘Callooh Callay’ on Moor Lane in Clitheroe. Jo gave Marian the traditional 40 balloon and we all got down to studying the yummy sounding menu.

Dainty and delicious sandwiches cut into triangles, scones with jam and clotted cream and a selection of scrumptious cupcakes arrived on three tiered cake stands. Yummy. : ) Everything was served in beautiful vintage crockery.

I think we all agreed that afternoon tea was indeed an inspired idea and the Birthday girl and all of us were very impressed.
